Jason Newbolds new Greenwood-based private aviation company, BOLDJets, has really taken flight.
Newbold, a Center Grove resident, sells private aircraft to individuals and corporations. The aircraft give owners the opportunity to fly at their leisure, access to more airports nationwide and avoid commercial airports, long waits, and big crowds.
BOLDJets was formed when I realized an opportunity in an ever-changing environment and growing industry, Newbold says. My passion is aviation, but my satisfaction comes from assisting clients through the process and building long-lasting relationships.
Newbold says BOLDJets, which launched in November, is a boutique private aviation solutions company, focusing on private jets, turboprops, and late model piston aircraft, as well as aircraft management and growing private aviation in the area.
We specialize in aircraft sales and acquisitions, and we can manage the clients aircraft, or use our network to facilitate any charter needs, Newbold says. We are a licensed aircraft dealer in the state of Indiana, as well as a member of the National Aviation Business Association. BOLDJets is a full-time operation that intends on adding additional services and we have already started growing the team.
Newbold grew up in Bedford and graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School in 2002.
My grandfather has been a pilot since he was 16 years old, owning multiple aircraft and flying all over the west coast, Newbold says. He grew up in Southern California. He was the chief flight instructor at the Bedford Gus Grissom airport for 30 years and has over 7,000 hours of flight time. My grandfather has really been my inspiration to get into aviation and is one of my biggest supporters. I have been fortunate enough to fly with him over the years. I love hearing stories from my dad telling me how my grandfather used to fly them all over the southwest region. My business and client-centric attitude come from watching my father successfully own and operate a company he had for 27 years. It was always client satisfaction first, business later.
Newbold is also a combat veteran and completed two tours of duty in Iraq.
I joined the Army six months after the events of 9/11, Newbold says. I felt as if I was called to serve my country however I can. I completed two tours for Operation Iraqi Freedom, including an airborne operation in western Iraq in 2004. After completing my duty, I returned home to Bedford, Indiana, and joined the corporate world.
Newbold previously worked at another aircraft brokerage firm before forming BOLDJets.
Prior to starting BOLDJets, I was an aircraft sales director for an aircraft brokerage firm in Indianapolis, Newbold says. I have been involved with and completed many transactions – everything from small, single-engine piston aircraft to medium-size business jets.
San Diego, CA businessman, Mr. Peterson, and owner of a 2018 Phenom 300E says this about working with Newbold, Bottom line is that Jason did a very good job of not only representing his client but also representing me in the transaction. He was always a complete gentleman, thorough, and never pushy and never frustrated with the minor delays at the end. I would highly recommend him to anyone selling or buying an airplane.
Newbold thoroughly enjoys the aviation industry, from meeting pilots at local airports to attending Oshkosh AirVenture and other airshows nationwide.
I have a degree in applied science with an emphasis in aviation from Vincennes University, he says. I am an active pilot, with a little over 1,100 hours in many different types of aircraft.
BOLDJets is based at the Indy South Greenwood Airport.
I am already working with clients around Indianapolis to purchase different aircraft, Newbold says. A lot of my clients this year are new to private aviation and first-time aircraft owners, others wanting something bigger and/or faster.
Newbold is in a growing industry.
We are certainly in the most interesting times I can remember, he says. Flying is a tool, whether its flying commercial or flying private. However, having access to your own aircraft offers you more freedom and access to airports you may not be able to fly into commercially. There are over 5,000 airports in the United States, and only 500 of them with direct access from a commercial flight. Likewise, you avoid security lines, hours of waiting, and thousands of people, and less fatigued from potentially traveling all day with commercial airlines.
I recently traveled to Colorado, and while my trip out wasnt too bad, my return trip was delayed twice, overbooked, and it took me 12 hours to get home from the time I showed up to the airport. With a private jet, I could have been home in three hours or less.
Newbold acknowledges that purchasing an aircraft is a huge decision.
I think one of the most important decisions you can make when purchasing an aircraft is who you partner with to help you through the process, he says. We have access to many comprehensive and proprietary tools to help you go through operational costs, identifying the right aircraft, and the knowledge and experience to put it all together. I believe we will continue to see growth in the private aviation industry as individuals and companies realize how it can be used to their advantage and could also see some tax breaks as well.
