Having a dream is wonderful, but sometimes the idea of pursuing it can feel overwhelming. Dr. Gagandeep Bath, who has been working as a dentist since 2015, confided in her husband, Sunny, that one day she would love to open her own dental practice. Last year he found the perfect opportunity to do so in Carmel.

“I told him I wasn’t ready, but he assured me that I was and encouraged me to go for it,” says Bath. In November 2024 they opened a newly constructed, 5,000-square-foot practice called Smile N’ Style Dental. It is pristine, welcoming and decorated with wallpaper shipped from Italy.

“People have said that this looks more like a five-star resort than a dental clinic,” Sunny says.

Offering a wide range of cosmetic solutions, family care and restorative treatments, Bath provides the very best in dental care by utilizing an array of specialized skills. Bath is a TMJ and oral facial pain specialist who has also earned certifications in dental implants, facial esthetics, soft-tissue surgeries, and dental sleep medicine. This means that she can use oral appliance therapy to treat sleep-disordered breathing such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

“A lot of patients assume that using a CPAP machine is the only option they have to treat such problems, but some patients find the CPAP machines too cumbersome, making a sleep appliance the better option,” Bath says.

At Smile N’ Style, they offer same-day treatments (e.g., crowns and mouth guards). Plus, they do the majority of their procedures in-house. In addition, they are among the first clinics in Indiana to offer advanced equipment and technologies such as laser machines so that patients can enjoy pain-free dentistry options.

Bath began using laser treatments a year and a half ago at her other clinic, Global Smiles Dental, located on Indy’s south side. Many dentists don’t use lasers because they are not yet trained, but Bath supports continuing education and always stays abreast of new technologies and treatments.

Bath is so passionate about dentistry that she works seven days a week. She is especially empathetic to the patient who is grappling with mouth pain and unable to find relief because they can’t get in to see a dentist.

“This is a gap that I wanted to bridge,” she says. “I want to be the dentist who is available when patients need me.” During the COVID pandemic when everything shut down, Bath refused to do the same because she didn’t want her patients to suffer. Therefore, during the COVID lockdown she wore multiple gowns, masks and gloves, and showed up to treat her patients.

“She cares for people so much,” Sunny says. “She cares about her patients’ finances as well. If you don’t need something done, she will try to save your tooth and save you money.”

Early in Bath’s career, a patient came in for a routine checkup. While examining him, she noticed that there was something going on in his mouth that wasn’t normal. To Bath’s trained eye, she knew something was amiss. The man got a biopsy done, and it turns out he had stage 2 oral cancer. He went through chemotherapy and radiation and made a complete recovery.

“He stills comes to me after 11 years and is doing perfectly fine,” Bath says. “Every time he sees me, he thanks me for saving his life.”

Seeing a dentist who specializes in TMJ and oral facial pain is not only helpful for identifying potential issues and education about such problems, but is also beneficial to a patient who experiencing chronic oral pain. Bath recently had a patient who complained that he had been dealing with pain in his jaw, neck, shoulder and head for months. He had been to chiropractor, physicians, and even a psychiatrist who prescribed antidepressants. One doc told him to have his heart checked. Another suggested that the weather was causing his issues. The truth was he had TMJ issues and oral facial pain problems.

“It was such a simple diagnosis, but these other doctors made it so complicated,” says Bath, who works with a licensed, certified, highly qualified team who has been by her side for years.

“They bring so much value to the practice,” Bath says.

She appreciates them so much that she has treated them to several all-expenses-paid vacations, including trips to Puerto Rico, Florida and Colorado.

“It’s her way of thanking her staff for being so loyal,” says Sunny. “They are like family to us.”

Bath is also committed to giving back to the community, so her practice sponsors the Carmel High School softball team and is looking to do additional sponsorships in the future.

In addition to Smile N’ Style, Bath and her husband also own Global Smiles Dental, a clinic that Bath helped grow substantially. Through the years she has built a name for herself in the Indy area, especially among the Indian community.

At Smile N’ Style they see patients from one month old to 100-plus years old.

“My wife is so good with children,” Sunny says.
