Looking for a fun, summer getaway that is close to home?
At Visit Hendricks County, we’ve been busy developing trip ideas for families with varied interests, young couples, and empty nesters who no longer have children in the household. With so much to see and do, I can’t cover it all here, though. I’ve provided just a sampling of what we’ve created, with a way for you to see much more and cater to your interests. Read on for more details.
Family Trip Ideas
How does a family thrills-and-chills getaway sound? Imagine soaking up the memories at Splash Island water park or one of our many splash pads, and enjoying lunch at one of our top kid-friendly restaurants, such as the Mayberry Cafe, where cleaning your plate can lead to a token that gets you a fun prize or ice cream.
Speaking of ice cream and sweets in general, this trip idea includes a sugar rush too, with recommendations on where to find the best ice cream, doughnuts and candy in the county.
However, maybe your family isn’t quite as active and would prefer a more laid-back adventure. Try the Creativity & Imagination tour and family DIY time at The Tie Dye Lab, and if you have young ones who love the magical world of fairies, you must take a journey along the Central Indiana Enchanted Fairy Trail.
For animal lovers, we also developed a Farm Fresh experience that could be especially popular as summer winds down and the calendar turns to fall. Attractions include a visit to Beasley’s Orchard and stops at Montrose Farms, Natural Valley Ranch and Oinking Acres.
Adult Trip Ideas
Looking for more of an adult experience? Whether it’s with friends or your significant other, we have that covered too.
Our Shop, Create & Socialize tour boasts recommendations for a perfect day of shopping, places to get creative for you DIYers, and foodie experiences including eateries like Brew Link Brewing and Rusted Silo Southern BBQ & Brewhouse, where you can let your hair down while enjoying a great meal and a few drinks.
Perhaps history and architecture are more your style. We have a great way for you to step back in time and experience some of our best places to take in history, such as the Hendricks County Historical Museum, and places where you can shop for vintage items and antiques like Gilley’s Antique & Decorator Mall. Of course, no blast to the past would be complete without enjoying some comfort food at the only diner left on the National Road, the Oasis Diner.
These trip ideas merely scratch the surface of what you will find on our new Getaway Quizaway, offered exclusively at VisitHendricksCounty.com. After answering just four simple questions, this interactive quiz will deliver fun trip ideas geared specifically to your interests.
Are you looking for activities for adults or families? Want to spend the night, or prefer a day trip? How do you feel about indoor activities? Is the great outdoors where you want to be? Are you a watcher or a doer? As you answer these questions, the system will guide you to those perfect experiences that will lead to lasting memories.
We have developed 10 trip ideas for active adults and families, gamers, DIYers, small-town fanatics, gear heads, and more. We truly believe there is so much to see and do in Hendricks County that our locals may just learn something from taking this quiz and studying the results.
