For nearly a decade, Style Threads Resale & Boutique has been selling good-as-new apparel that represents the latest trends in everyday casual wear. The owners curate name-brand ladies clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories and jewelry from the best closets in Hendricks and surrounding counties.
For eight years, Suzy Pineda ran Suzys Consign & Resale in Avon. In 2015, her daughter Tiffany Wallace joined the business, adding the boutique side of the store, which carries all new items. In February of 2021, the mother-daughter duo relocated their business to a new, 3,200-square-foot location off of Highway 36 in the same location as Dannys Mexican Ice Cream and AT&T.
Though the location is new and the owners have rebranded, its the same location owned by the mother-daughter duo that was voted Best Consignment Store in Hendricks County by the Hendricks County Flyer. Those who dont follow social media or receive emails may have assumed the business closed, but it is still here and going strong, carrying everyday casual and business-casual clothing in sizes from extra small through plus-size 3X.
In her work, Pineda aims to serve two demographics – the buyers and the sellers.
I want to reach the ladies who are shopping for good, quality name-brand items, but I also want to reach the ladies who want to clear out their closets, Pineda says.
To make that task seamless, consignments are taken Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays by appointment. Pineda is looking to buy name-brand ladies items that are no more than three years old, so that they are still in style. The items should be freshly laundered, in new or like-new condition, and may be brought in on hangers or neatly folded and placed in a laundry basket or tote. Consignors can drop off their clothes for review, and Pineda will either give items back that do not meet their standards, or pass them on to one of the local nonprofits that she partners with, such as the Lyndhurst Community Center.
The owners recently started accepting home goods such as small side tables, wall art, knickknacks, throw blankets, decorative candles, vases, small mirrors, and serving trays. All must be in excellent condition and under five years old.
What sets us apart is that we get to know our customers by name and learn their likes, dislikes and style choices, says Pineda, a lifelong Hendricks County resident. Were personal with our customers.
Though COVID-19 has been a challenge, especially for small businesses, Pineda and Wallace have weathered the storm.
We were closed for seven and a half weeks, but thankfully our consigners and customers supported us through that, says Pineda, who began doing porch pickups as well as weekly Facebook Live sales during the pandemic. It was important to think outside the box on how to keep inventory and revenue coming in.
She continues to do Facebook Live sales on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. (search for Style Threads Resale on Facebook). The virtual shopping experience is ideal for working moms or those who are uncomfortable shopping in stores right now.
Normally, I have anywhere between 18 and 40 women watch when I go live and shop, says Pineda, who stands in front of a bright light describing the apparel.
For example, she might say, This is a LOFT short-sleeved top, navy blue, slim fit, size medium, 100% cotton, so itll keep you cool. Its $12.99, but look – its got tags attached and is brand new, so its a $39 shirt that youre going to get for $12.99.
Prices range widely, since Pineda sells ballet flats from Target for $8 all the way up to Louis Vuitton purses for $2,000. The average piece of womens clothing, however, is between $10 and $16. Prices are at least 50% to 90% off of retail. The top-selling brands include LOFT, White House Black Market, Maurices, Kate Spade, COACH and Michael Kors, as well as brands from local boutiques. Other brands include Chicos, INC, Style & Co, TJ Maxx and more.
We really do have something for everyone, Pineda says. Its a new store every time you come in because inventory is constantly changing.
On the consignment side, Pineda adds 100 to 300 items daily to the sales floor. The boutique gets new arrivals weekly, consisting of the latest style trends. New items in Wallaces boutique are always on Instagram under Style Threads Boutique.
Nothing makes Pineda feel better than when someone walks out of the store with a bag full of clothing, having only spent perhaps $50.
They are thrilled because they got name-brand stuff at a fraction of the cost, and Im thrilled that they are so happy, Pineda says.
