For more than two years, Hendricks Live! in Plainfield has served as a go-to for the arts in Hendricks County.
Whether it’s the Hendricks County Symphony Orchestra, an art exhibition or the latest tribute concert performance that brings guests to the theatre for the first time, Emily Winship, director of marketing, said there’s a plethora of reasons guests continue to come back again and again.
Perhaps the main reason is the effort put forth to find a little something for everyone.
They strive to produce a diverse lineup of performances and do everything possible to make sure guests are having fun while they’re at it.
“I think people come back because of the experience they have here,” Winship said. “It’s an easy, accessible, welcoming space and based on the survey feedback we receive, guests are always pleased with the customer service and they’re having fun with friends and family in this space.”
One of the central goals of the performing arts center during the planning phase was to provide a space for youth and adults right here in the county, needing a place to perform.
Hendricks Live! serves as the stage for the local arts, including Hendricks Civic Theatre, Hendricks County Symphony Orchestra and The Children’s Ballet, but in addition, they also host live cover bands, comedians and other artists.
“We’ve seen a lot of success with our rock tribute shows. I think that’s because it’s the classics everyone knows and loves. The Beach Boys, AC/DC and the ’70s and ’80s disco show went really well,” Winship said. “Visitors know what it is and that they’re going to have a good time.”
This fall’s lineup won’t disappoint.
In October, guests can catch Cabaret Latino: Songs of the Americas, The Ultimate Doors Tribute, a Tom Petty Tribute, Anthony Nunziata with Serenade Jazz Orchestra and more.
November includes a Dave Matthews Tribute, “We Call It Ballet: Sleeping Beauty Dance and Light Show” and the Brownsburg Ballroom Dance Studio Presents Christmas Spectacular.
December offers holiday performances including Hendricks Civic Theatre’s “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Hendricks Symphony Presents Home for the Holiday, The Children’s Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” and Jim Brickman’s Christmas Celebration Live.
As the season continues, more shows will be added to the list. “Some of our partners have released their entire schedule, but Hendricks Live! often announces things throughout the season, so check back for new events and an updated calendar,” Winship said.
Aside from performances, visitors can take advantage of the many things that make the Hendricks Live! location unique.
The Greene Room Café, attached to the performing arts center, serves as a coffee-to-cocktails space with breakfast and coffee options in the morning and a cocktail bar by night, serving guests taking in an evening show.
“They offer snacks and cocktails prior to the show and in addition, visitors can walk across the street to The Prewitt or The Oasis and enjoy a meal before the show,” Winship said. “There’s free garage parking and everything is walkable from there.”
There are also concession food and beverage offerings throughout the event and, according to Winship, an evening won’t break the bank.
“The pricing is accessible. We’ve received feedback about the concessions not being overpriced and we’re really focused on our visitors returning. We want generations of families coming to Hendricks Live,” Winship said. “Whatever is on stage, you can know you’ll be welcomed with a smile and feel appreciated when you arrive.”
Space at Hendricks Live! is also available for rent.
The second floor offers a medium-size event space, perfect for graduation parties, bridal showers and other events. The theatre is available for larger events such as weddings and corporate activities. The Town Center rooms are also available to use as breakout or meeting rooms for corporate events, leaving the entire building open for rental based on the need.
In order to create the perfect setting with dining, entertainment, shopping and more, Winship said it’s a group effort.
“So many things happened at once. Everything from new restaurants opening to the theatre opening and the overall curb appeal along Main Street in downtown Plainfield. It all came to fruition and we’re all benefitting from it now,” Winship said.
There are ways the community can get involved, too.
As a nonprofit 501(c)(3), Hendricks Live! has donor options available on their website and corporate donors are recognized as well.
A strong volunteer infrastructure, Winship said, offers rewards and pre-sale access for those scanning tickets, serving as ushers and helping with wayfinding throughout the facility.
“Every night there’s a pre-brief before the show with our volunteers. They get their Hendricks Live! swag on and come together to talk about our mission and our vision. We want to serve the community and we want people to feel like this is their home; they are welcome when they walk through the door. This is their performance center in Hendricks County and we’re here to serve them,” Winship said.
