JTH Industries Expands Irrigation & Excavation Services In Central Indiana

From the Ground Up

JTH Industries LLC, based in Kokomo, takes pride in offering the highest-quality irrigation and excavation services for all commercial, residential, industrial and agricultural customers in central Indiana, including Howard, Tipton, Marion, Cass and Hamilton counties.

When working with their customers to provide affordable solutions on their projects, owners Jordan and Gina Hopkins’ focus is ensuring each job meets the highest standard of satisfaction. The couple takes the time to understand each job’s specific needs, and their family is involved in the day-to-day operations and decisions that have helped this small business grow.

The family-owned business started roughly a decade ago in northern Indiana, where Jordan Hopkins began mowing lawns and doing basic landscaping work. Over time — and one move later — the work expanded.A newly installed white PVC sewer line sits in a deep, narrow trench in a grassy backyard. The main pipe runs straight down the length of the trench, with a smaller branch pipe connecting into it at a Y-junction. Large mounds of excavated dirt line the right side of the trench, and a well-maintained lawn and a house are visible in the background.

“Jordan started mowing and landscaping about 10 years ago,” Gina says. “About five years ago we moved into excavation. Then last year we added irrigation. Right now we’re working on getting our septic certification so we can offer that service as well.”

The couple relocated to Kokomo, Jordan’s hometown, at the end of 2022. Hopkins grew up in the Chicago area and spent years living in Chicago and northwest Indiana. When they decided to move south, they also moved the business.

The move meant starting over in many ways. A service business depends on long-term contracts and established relationships, and many of those could not come with them.

“We had to rebuild quite a bit,” she says. “When we moved we lost a lot of contracts that were up north. So in a lot of ways it felt like starting fresh.”

That rebuilding has happened steadily over the past three years. Word of mouth has helped, along with the kind of steady communication customers often say is rare in the home service world.

“I do most of the scheduling and the administrative work,” she says. “So I’m the one who talks with customers when they call in. Jordan is usually out in the field handling the projects.”

The arrangement gives the company a personal feel. Customers speak directly with one of the owners rather than a call center or answering service.

“We have a lot of wonderful customers,” she says. “Getting to talk with them and getting to know people in the community has been one of my favorite parts of the job.”

The business grew significantly last year after JTH Industries acquired the customer base of a longtime local irrigation company.

The transition added more than 100 irrigation clients to the company’s schedule. It also expanded the type of work JTH Industries handles during the warmer months, when irrigation installation and maintenance can become a large part of the workload.

Projects begin with a call or message from a homeowner. JTH Industries schedules a site visit and prepares a quote before any work begins. Quotes and estimates are always free, and someone from JTH will come on-site to look at the job and will follow up with a quote via email.

“Usually customers get it within 24 to 48 hours,” she says. “If it’s something like installing a brand-new irrigation system, that takes longer because we have to do CAD drawings and plan everything out.”Several active sprinkler heads along a stone-lined driveway spray water in long, steady streams across a lush, green, sloping lawn. In the background, a residential home is partially visible behind manicured bushes and trees under an overcast sky.

The Hopkins family has also tried to build connections beyond the job site. They have supported local organizations and youth activities and spent years fostering rescue dogs.

“I think it’s important for people to know we’re just a family-owned business,” she says. “My husband and I work together every day to make sure the work is done right and that customers hear back from us.”

For JTH Industries, the future will likely look a lot like the past few years: steady growth, expanded services and more homeowners discovering a company that still operates the old-fashioned way.

“We’re still growing,” she says. “But we’ve built a really good base here, and we’re excited about where it’s going.”
