In a world where speed and convenience often take priority, Creekside Saw Mill in Topeka, Indiana, continues to focus on something more enduring: quality wood, dependable craftsmanship and materials made for projects that are built to last.
Creekside’s roots in the community stretch back more than six decades. The business dates to 1962, giving it a long history in northern Indiana’s woodworking and construction industry. The Kurtz family name has also been connected to the mill for years, with Vernon Kurtz now serving as president.
At the heart of the business is the milling and sale of premium wood. Creekside offers a wide range of products designed to meet both structural and decorative needs, giving builders and property owners options for projects of many sizes and styles.
Interior square beams and round beams are among those offerings. Exposed wood beams can serve a practical purpose while also becoming a defining design element within a room. Their natural grain and substantial appearance can bring warmth and character to homes, cabins and gathering spaces where wood is meant to be seen and appreciated. Creekside also provides porch railings and log siding, products that complement rustic, traditional and lodge-inspired construction. Log siding can provide the appearance and character associated with log construction, while wood porch railings add a natural finishing touch to outdoor living spaces.
Another versatile option is 1-by-6 tongue-and-groove lumber. Designed so that individual boards fit neatly together, tongue-and-groove can be used on walls, ceilings and other finished surfaces. It is especially well suited for cabins, porches, great rooms and other spaces where natural wood is intended to be part of the overall design.
Not every Creekside product is chosen for appearance alone. The company also supplies trailer flooring and oak construction lumber for applications where strength and durability are especially important. Oak has long been valued for its toughness and reliability, making it a practical material for projects expected to withstand regular use and demanding
conditions.
That range of products allows Creekside to serve many different kinds of customers. One person may be looking for beams to complete the interior of a new home, while another may need lumber for a pavilion, cabin or construction project. Others may be searching for durable flooring or wood products capable of handling heavier-duty applications.
The variety also reflects the versatility of wood itself. In one project, it may be primarily structural. In another, it may become one of the most noticeable design features. From walls and ceilings to porches and support beams, wood can help shape both the appearance and function of a finished space.
Creekside’s work extends beyond individual boards and beams. The company’s products are also suited for larger projects such as cabins, pavilions and other wood-focused construction. In these settings, the quality of the material can influence not only how a structure looks when it is completed, but also how well it performs over time.
For builders, homeowners and property owners, selecting the right lumber is an important part of creating something meant to endure. The species, dimensions and intended use of the wood can all affect the finished result. Working with a sawmill provides access to materials created with those practical considerations in mind.
More than 60 years after Creekside Saw Mill began serving the Topeka area, its purpose remains straightforward. Whether the project calls for interior beams, tongue-and-groove lumber, porch railings, log siding, trailer flooring, oak construction lumber, or materials for a cabin or pavilion, Creekside continues to provide wood for projects designed to stand the test of time.
