Habitat for Humanity Dedicates Women Build House

Habitat For Humanity Women BuildSaturday was special for a mom and her two daughters as they received the keys to their new home in Franklin. Habitat for Humanity Johnson County dedicated their 12th home on November 16, 2013. The home is the first built by teams of all women as part of the “Women Build” program. 15 “Women Build” teams have spent the past several months building and preparing the home for Brandy Shockley and her two daughters.

Although the home was built by volunteers the home was not free for Brandy and her daughters. Brandy will invest hundreds of hours of her own work building her home and the houses of others. She will also pay for the home since Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. Her mortgage payments will be used to build still more Habitat houses.
