Gun turn-in is set for April 16, IMPD says
The Indianapolis Star reports that Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers will be collecting guns — no questions asked — in April. The goal is to get guns off the streets and keep them from getting into the hands of criminals, said Sgt. Matt Grimes, IMPD Northwest District spokesman. Guns will be collected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 16 at locations across the city, Grimes said. The guns will be destroyed. Those turning in weapons should bring unloaded firearms safely secured in a box or a bag in the trunk of their vehicles.
