Lawrence apartment fire damages four units
A fire that damaged four apartments in Lawrence is under investigation. The fire broke out Friday morning at a complex on Rue Leman (near 42nd and Post Road) just before 9 a.m. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of one apartment. The people inside got out safely, however, five people next door became trapped. “The fire was blocking their front door, so it had already burst out of the apartment and had made its way to the balcony. Well, that blocked these occupants’ exit,” said firefighter Mark Delong. Firefighters had to use a ladder to rescue the five from a window. Two people suffered minor smoke inhalation. No one was hospitalized.
