42nd Street closes next week east of U.S. 36/Pendleton Pike

INDOT to realign roadway to build a safer ‘T’ intersection

LAWRENCE, Ind. – Progress continues on Pendleton Pike (U.S. 36/S.R. 67) between I-465 and Post Road, where Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors are wrapping up underground pipe installation and beginning to pave the new roadway. Road crews plan to begin work early next week at 42nd Street, which will require the road to be closed east of Pendleton Pike through this fall.

The northeasterly direction of Pendleton Pike creates skewed intersections with east-west streets in the corridor. As part of this road project, INDOT plans to realign portions of 42nd and 46th Streets east of Pendleton Pike to build safer “T” intersections. When completed, the new 42nd Street intersection will line up with Sellers Street to the north. Depending upon weather and construction progress, contractors plan to close 42nd Street during the workday on Monday, June 2 or Tuesday, June 3. Access will be maintained to the homes and businesses that only have entrances onto 42nd Street.

Further north, motorists should anticipate intermittent daytime closures next week on 46th Street east of Pendleton Pike. Contractors will be installing new water lines under the street in anticipation of road construction next year at this location.

This $26.8 Major Moves project is the third and final phase of work to widen and rebuild Pendleton Pike between I-465 and McCordsville in Hancock County. Gov. Mitch Daniels’ Major Moves highway program capitalizes on Indiana’s strategic location at the Crossroads of America by building a superior road infrastructure. When Major Moves is complete in 2015, nearly $12 billion in critical highway projects will have been built. This innovative plan brings jobs to the Hoosier State and leaves a legacy for Indiana to be a global leader in distribution and logistics.
