Hundreds of Indiana communities are breaking the law by not submitting their required annual and salary reports to the state, according to data provided by the State Board of Accounts. Annual reports and salary reports allow auditors and taxpayers to see how government officials are spending taxpayer money, including how much employees are earning, 6News’ Kara Kenney reported. The State Board of Accounts reports that so far this year, 23 percent of government units have failed to file on time, while 11 percent haven’t filed at all. Two counties, 77 townships, 79 cities and towns, 10 libraries and 91 special districts have yet to file their reports, including the city of Indianapolis, Lawrence, Southport, and Center Township in Marion County. “I think that’s ridiculous,” said Mark Lawrance with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. “Anything less than 100 percent is unacceptable, and I think taxpayers should be outraged.” More…
