Nestled on a side street just off of the Main Street shops, Zionsville Olive Oil is dedicated to bringing customers the freshest products available. The shop offers olive oils with health benefits, including many infused with delicious flavors. Its varieties of balsamic vinegars, along with provided recipes, make everyday cooking a little bit easier and much more fun.

Owners Angie McCloskey and Julie Wooldridge are longtime local residents. Both grew up in Fountain County, Indiana, but as adults, they ended up raising their families in Zionsville. Three years ago while vacationing together in Wisconsin, the two women wandered into an olive oil shop.

“Separately, we had both shopped in olive oil stores before and I had already fallen in love with vinegars,” McCloskey says. “When we went into the store together, we both turned to each other and said, ‘Why isn’t a store like this in Zionsville?’”

The shop offers several choices of high-quality, pure olive oil, priced from $6 for a small bottle to $33 for a large quantity. The top seller at the store is the Family Reserve olive oil, made from picual olives that give it a fruity flavor with medium intensity. A close second is Tuscan Herb, which is infused with herbs and garlic.

“I didn’t want to do retail by myself and neither did Angie, so we decided to open the store together,” Wooldridge adds. “Now we are celebrating our second anniversary. We’ve had steady growth the last two years and built up loyal customers.”

Prices for vinegars are the same as olive oils, and include both dark and white balsamic. Traditional 18 Year is the most popular flavor, followed by Italian Raspberry, which is made with fresh raspberry puree. Also in demand is Sicilian Lemon, which customers tend to use in salad dressings.

“There are so many varieties that we encourage people to taste,” McCloskey says. “The oils and vinegars are in large silver containers with caps called fustis. Before COVID, people could help themselves to sample. Post-COVID, all customers have to do is ask us. We glove up, wear a mask and follow health guidelines for a contactless tasting.”

Olive oils and vinegars can be paired together, and the shop provides recipes and suggestions for delicious combinations.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, the shop’s online store was already up and ready for customers to order online. Free local delivery or pickup from the store has been initiated and is continuing. Weekday orders are delivered between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

“We want to aid the ease of cooking and help people out in the kitchen,” Wooldridge says. “Because our products are already infused with flavor, they save time. You don’t have to chop a lot of ingredients after working all day. Just drizzle and go.”
