Surface ExpertsEver dented a piece of furniture, hardwood floor or chipped a granite countertop? Chances are the resulting eye sore stayed there until the whole area was replaced. There is an answer for the dilemma. Surface Experts of Indiana can restore a multitude of materials to their former beauty with their unique spot restoration methods.

Owned by Center Grove native, Darci Fosnot, the mobile business saves time, waste and money. Why replace when you can repair? The business gives new life to surface materials that would otherwise end up in a land fill.

Fosnot is a 1993 graduate of Center Grove High School where she played basketball, tennis and volleyball. She played Division 1 tennis at Butler University where she earned her degree in business management and accounting. She and her husband Wade, an engineer for Sales Force, have three children. Active in the community, Fosnot has been Center Grove Middle School Central PTO president for seven years as well as serving on several other Center Grove Community School committees.

After working as a public accountant and then as controller for Conner Prairie in the nonprofit world, Fosnot spent a few years with Independent Welding Distribution Cooperative. Later, she was employed by Karen and Paul Wojtowicz, owners of several local McDonald’s restaurants. While keeping the books and helping with run-the-business tasks, Fosnot got a glimpse in the day-to-day running of a franchise.

Surface Experts“When it came time to decide on my future steps, I had to think about whether I wanted to go back to a corporate job or start my own business. My kids said, ‘You need a new baby.’ Surface Experts has become my baby! I knew I didn’t want anything that had a huge scale but rather a niche market and it had to be something that didn’t already exist,” Fosnot says.

“Surface Experts began in Portland, Oregon before founder Jacob Grady moved to Spokane, Washington and decide to franchise it. Our work scores a ‘wow factor’ from our clients on a daily basis. We handle pitting, staining and fogginess and can match any color on just about any surface such as quartz, granite, wood, vinyl, stainless steel and even outside limestone,” Fosnot adds.

Most jobs take one hour to do and four hours to dry. Prices start at $150. Choosing the blend of specific material to be used on the job is a matter of problem-solving that Surface Experts is known for. It all depends on the hardness and grain of the original surface and typical repairs are to glass top cook tops, window sills, sinks, torn flooring, tiles, fireplaces and even elevators.

“We have become experts at these repairs and are so versatile as to what can be done. Moving businesses, hotels and construction companies realize we can do a variety of repairs. It’s fun to see the results,” Fosnot says.
