Shelly Walters Realty Group has a combined 20 years of experience helping central Indiana buyers find the perfect place to call home.
“I’ve lived in the Indianapolis area for my whole life,” Walters says. “When we have people buying homes or moving to the area for the first time, I’m able to help buyers understand the school systems, the parks, commute time to different parts of the city, and what part of Carmel they want to live in.”
The team consists of Walters, her daughter, Lindsey Mathey, her son-in-law, Jeffery Mathey, and her mother, Terry Slinker.
“We have every demographic in our office,” Walters says. “Jeff is really great with families because he has a family of his own with my daughter. He knows what they’re looking for in a home. We try to match each buyer to someone on the team that will understand their needs.”
Interest rates dropped to historic lows throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, adding to the already inventory shortage.
“Homes are going quickly all over,” Walters says. “Buyers really don’t have the luxury of taking time to decide over a few days if they want a property anymore. That’s how quickly homes are coming and going on the market. Many houses have multiple offers as well.”
During the government-mandated lockdowns last March, the team had to get creative when selling homes.
“When this all started, sellers didn’t want potential buyers coming in and walking through their homes,” Walters says. “Obviously, they didn’t feel safe doing this, so as realtors we had to come up with safe ways to show homes.”
Walters is on the relocation team with F.C. Tucker, helping buyers moving to the Carmel area for the first time.
“We have an exceptional way we put our packages together for purchases, which helps when competing in multiple offer situations,” Walters says. “When someone is moving from out of state, we do a lot of videos and FaceTime for them. We can’t take the time to wait for them to drive to the area to see the house in person. By that time, it’s too late. The house is gone.”
Walters and her team know potential buyers are putting trust in their abilities without meeting them face to face.
“It can be hard for people to trust a realtor they’ve only met over the phone, or even through FaceTime,” Walters says. “We have to take the time and listen to their list of wants and needs. They depend on us to be their boots on the ground. We take that responsibility very seriously.”
