If you are, or have ever been, a pet parent, you know the joy they bring to our everyday lives. They are an absolute blessing and give us a different perspective on life, in the greatest and worst of times. We love them like family and they love us back unconditionally.
Dr. Jama Souder knows this firsthand, as she has worked professionally with animals for many years at Plymouth Veterinary Clinic. Souder knew from a young age that she wanted to help animals live their best lives. This led her to pursuing a degree at Purdue University and becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). She received her doctorate and the doors opened for her to begin her own practice.
Fast-forward to today, and she is now the proud owner of Plymouth Veterinary Clinic. Although Souder did not grow up in Plymouth, she feels that Marshall County welcomed her with open arms, and feels as if it has always been home. Her co-workers are more than just employees. They all view each other as family and value one another’s differences and skill sets.
The team at Plymouth Veterinary Clinic is composed of Dr. Jama Souder, DVM, Dr. Anna Koos, DVM, Dr. Casandra Ennis, DVM, Dr. Marie Bertman, DVM, Dr. Paige Weldy, DVM, and Souder’s husband, Adam Souder, who is the co-owner and assists with managing the clinic. Each individual on the staff serves a unique purpose. Collaboratively, they use their skills to offer the highest-quality services to their pet patients and their families.
For example, Koos specializes in dietary nutrition and creating home-cooked diets based on the needs of each animal. She is able to make recommendations if the pet owner is unsure of what their animal should be consuming. From there, she will tailor the diet and explain what to feed them, how to prepare the meals, and how many meals per day they should be consuming. Around the office Koos is known as the “cat whisperer,” although she can work with most animals.
Ennis specializes in orthopedic fracture repairs. This is often an ailment that older animals have to deal with. However, age does not discriminate when it comes to animal injuries. This is where Ennis is able to provide her expert skills, especially when it comes to knee surgeries.
Weldy focuses on very unique services to the region. These include providing exotic care to animals such as chinchillas, turkeys, lizards, rabbits, snakes and chickens. This is something that Souder believed was missing in the area.
Souder’s vision for creating a unique animal clinic is quite special. She is certified to offer hospice care for cats and dogs. This is rare to the area, and has proven to be a much-desired service. Souder is able to travel around the area to help animals, young and old, enjoy their end-of-life journey.
Although it does not make saying goodbye to our furry companions any easier, Souder and her team provide peace of mind that beloved pets will not suffer the stress of being euthanized in a stressful environment, which many animals experience. Souder will lovingly treat cats and dogs right up until their final moments, and ensure that they pass away peacefully in their known environment. She is also able to tell the client when the right time is to say goodbye. It is a hard decision for many pet owners, but knowing that the end-of-life process is being handled in the most humane way possible is something you cannot put a price on.
The team at Plymouth Veterinary Clinic is able to assist with a variety of pet needs. Some of their most popular services include anesthesia, bathing and grooming, blood transfusions, dental care, pain management, radiology, ultrasounds, wellness care, vaccines and much more.
