Jill Duzan Willey Jewelry

Jill Duzan Willey is the designer and owner of Jill Duzan, an artisan fine jewelry brand that can be found in high-end jewelry stores, boutiques and museum gift shops across the country, with each piece originating right here in the Geist area.

A Hoosier native, Jill purchased a five-acre lot in Hancock County more than 30 years ago.

“I lived in the country as a kid and just loved it,” Jill says. “It was a haven of fun and fields, and creeks. I wanted my kids to experience that type of environment as well.”

Jill has always appreciated and drawn inspiration from nature. Each piece from her jewelry line is designed and crafted on her property in a space she calls the Treetop Design Studio. Surrounded by trees, a creek, and several families of deer, she calls the space her “happy place.” One side of the studio showcases her artisan jewelry collection while the other side is a production space that houses all the unique stones and artifacts collected from around the world, including Africa, Thailand and Bali.

“Everything I collect is unique. I want my designs to be artisan and earthy, but also easy to wear with everything from blue jeans to a nice black dress.”

Transforming these pieces into her artisan style – Rugged Elegance – involves getting into the proper head space by playing music and sitting in a spot of the studio where the sun streams in.

“I begin by collecting a color pallet of materials in a jewelry tray,” says Jill. “from there, the creative process starts happening pretty quickly. I don’t sketch anything out or do a pattern. I just see it.”

“Every single piece I make I’m connected to,” Jill continues, “the rocks and shells from the Earth are made by our Creator, and it’s a privilege to transform these natural objects into something beautiful to wear every day.”

Technically, each piece is one-of-a-kind, though she does have a core collection that is produced for 7 retailers across the country, including her premier retailer Reis-Nichols Jewelers in Indianapolis and Greenwood. Her work can also be found in the state at Jophiel, an upscale women’s boutique in Fort Wayne, Civvies in Culver and Libby’s in Angola. Out West, you’ll find Jill Duzan at Amangani, a 5-star luxury resort in Jackson, Wyoming, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art Shop in Jackson Hole. Internationally, I.O. Domani, a boutique in Los Cabos, Mexico, carries Jill Duzan to pair with their opulent designer apparel.

But if you’re looking for a more personal shopping experience, Jill regularly hosts studio open houses. Her next open house will be a special Mother’s Day event on Thursday, April 30 from 11 to 4 PM.

“I love getting to know the women and men who visit the studio,” Jill says. “You start talking and it’s kind of a magical connection. It’s a double win to know that the pieces I’ve created and so connected to, are being shared and enjoyed by other people. ”

Jill also holds shows throughout the year in various locations. You can visit her website, jillduzanjewelry.com, and follow her on her Facebook, Instagram, and twitter to find out where she will pop up next.
