JR and Lois McIntire founded Crystal Wand Creations back in 1992, but they rooted themselves in downtown Kokomo in 2012 as a spiritual, cultural and holistic gift shop. Within the shop you can find various incense items, gems, candles, religious relics, tapestries and other unique and spiritual products.
As one of the only shops in town that offers such a vast number of items from different cultures and belief systems, the owners have had visitors from many different cultures and backgrounds. After meeting in Hawaii, JR and Lois traveled extensively around the world. Over the years, they have experienced many cultures and ways of life.
“Our store is a collection of all the things that we have fallen in love with,” JR says.
It feels like a vacation home with a calm and safe environment for JR and Lois, who love filling the shelves with items from wall to wall. To JR and Lois, the most meaningful parts of the shop are their customers and the people they meet.
JR and Lois like to give back to the community, and they see Kokomo as their home. They support Rhum Academy of Music and the Kokomo Rescue Mission. In the past, they have participated in local First Friday networking events downtown in order to create more community connections and help those in need. JR and Lois believe that the connections they make with their customers are very special.
“Whatever you need, we will try to help you,” Lois says.
They have experienced countless encounters with people who come to the store and share what is on their mind. They wish to be there for people who have no one else. Personal experiences are what JR and Lois enjoy the most while working at Crystal Wand Creations. They have watched families and children grow as they have come to the shop at the store consistently over the years. Hearing what their customers have to say enlightens their hearts.
“It’s just a place where you can come talk and feel safe, and our customers become our friends,” Lois says, adding that the shop welcomes all and the owners do not judge anyone who comes through the door.
