YogaSixAfter a particularly difficult year like 2020, many people will look to better their mental and physical well-being in the new year. Yoga can benefit both the body and the mind. YogaSix opened in Carmel in March, but quickly closed due to pandemic-related government shutdown orders.

“We opened our doors and closed them on the same day,” says Owner Abby Nebughr. “Once the mandate was lifted, we’ve been open ever since.”

YogaSix offers six types of yoga classes: Y6 Mix, Y6 Slow Flow, Y6 Restore, Y6 Hot, Y6 Power, and Y6 Sculpt and Flow. The variety ensures there is something for everyone.

Beginners can start with any class. The classes are for all levels but have different intensities.

“Y6 Mix is geared toward introducing YogaSix to prospective students,” Nebughr says.  “It’s a blend of three of our six core class types, to give people a feel for what each one is like – a preview, so to speak. It starts with Y6 Hot, then transitions to Y6 Sculpt and Flow, and ends with Y6 Restore. It is the only class that is 45 minutes rather than 60.”

YogaSix offers a full sensory experience with each class.

“There is a colored LED lighting system that changes the light color throughout the class,” Nebughr says. “We also have a state-of-the-art heating and humidity system, and a state-of-the-art sound system for fun playlists.”

Athletes like runners can benefit from Y6 Restore.

YogaSix“Runners, cyclists, or any type of athletes enjoy this class,” Nebughr says. “It’s like a big hug for your body. This class is more of a major release for the body.”

With YogaSix, Nebughr wants to establish yoga as a meditation workout for all, rather than an endeavor for only the most elite athletes. Classes are intensity-based rather than level-based.

“We offer different pricing plans,” Nebughr says. “We offer unlimited classes for a monthly fee, class packages, and we include some on-demand workouts as well. Our app offers features like guided meditation.”

YogaSix can help students accomplish their New Year’s resolutions including weight loss.

“New Year’s resolutions are generally about getting healthier or losing weight,” Nebughr says. “I think we are all used to those resolutions. We have a few members who have lost 15 to 20 pounds since they joined. Just because it’s yoga doesn’t mean that you don’t get a great workout.”

Other members have benefitted from the mental health aspects of yoga.

“Of course, there are always the people that join for the workout but benefit from the mental aspects of it and get tuned in that way,” Nebughr adds. “It’s something where everyone can find a benefit. We have everything from a deep stretch to a high-intensity interval training workout. It’s kind of the best of both worlds. Yoga can help you become stronger mentally and physically, more flexible mentally and physically and more resilient in the face of stress.”

YogaSix is located at 11503 Spring Mill Road, Suite 700 in Carmel. For more information, call or text 317-771-6049, or visit yogasix.com.
