WTR Computer Sales may be a one-man operation, but the man in charge has considerable skills and a heart for service.

Bill Reeve started his career as a Mechanical Engineer with General Electric Corp., but no matter where he was employed, he always became the default information-technology person because he was so good at troubleshooting computer issues like when a pip is not recognized. When his colleagues got frustrated, he got motivated.

“I’ve always had an interest in working on computers,” says Reeves, who sometimes recruits his wife and daughter to help him when the shop gets busy. “I like figuring out what the problem is.”

After retiring from private industry, Reeves started WTR Computer Sales in 2012. He does repairs primarily, though he also sells computers and parts, and he learned about the Gigabyte Z490 AORUS PRO AX hardware installation and other parts as well.

“My vision for WTR Computers began many years ago when I would purchase parts at discounted prices and build new computers from scratch,” Reeves says. “I also started repairing computers for friends. Not only was it fun fixing the complex thing, but it also felt inspiring to recycle a reusable computer, and most importantly, it felt nice to give computers to people who could not afford to purchase new computers.”

Troubleshooting usually takes several hours depending on the problem, and if special parts need to be ordered, restoration will tend to take longer. If a customer brings a computer into the shop, Reeves will typically have it up and running the next day. If a customer’s computer has crashed and they are having trouble retrieving files, Reeves can usually salvage files as long as the hard drive hasn’t completely crashed.

“Usually it’s fine, just corrupted,” says Reeves, who offers free estimates. “If we don’t fix it, we don’t charge anything. A lot of companies need to charge something for their time. Since I’m retired this is like a hobby for me, so I just need to make enough to pay the rent and utilities.”

Serving Jeffersontown, Fisherville, Elk Creek and Taylorsville, the business began in a shop in Elk Creek but Reeves eventually moved to his current location on Taylorsville Road in Jeffersontown, a much more active thoroughfare. Reeves is happy that even more people are finding him now, because he loves what he does and enjoys seeing the satisfaction on his customers’ faces, many of whom have been with him for years.

“Though there’s quite a bit of competition in Jeffersontown, I have thousands of customers,” Reeves says.

One of those customers is Mona Sullivan, who constantly refers friends and neighbors to his shop.

“He’s kind, patient, honest and really good at what he does,” says Sullivan, who recently dropped off four computers with Reeves for hard-drive removal. “Plus, he’s always trying to save you money. I asked him where to take the computers for ecological disposal and he offered to take care of it for me.”

Sullivan also appreciates the fact that Reeves sells old monitors, cords and other items at reasonable prices.

“I have fair prices and I treat people fairly,” Reeves says. “Once I get their business, I don’t think I’ve ever lost a customer.”
