Barre Bee Fit: Stronger, Smarter, Grittier

Classical ballet class? Uh, no. Cardio? Well, sort of. Challenging? You bet!

This is Barre Bee Fit, located near 121st and Hoosier Road, a mix of barre exercises from ballet, cardio and of course high-tempo music to keep you motivated. The lights are dim, so you can’t concentrate too much on the bodies other than your own, and that is good because there is choreography that changes weekly to concentrate on instead.

The studio is a Chicago-based franchise that opened here in June. A year or so ago, local owner Danielle Dixon-Hacker had had enough of selling elevators to rude contractors and property managers. She was also teaching fitness part-time, so she began looking for a fitness company to buy into, trying out 12-15 different methods in classes from Cincinnati to Chicago.

Class routines change weekly.

“Every [workout] method I tried, I still ‘looked pretty’ at the end; the class was missing something that was challenging,” she commented. That is until she was introduced by a Chicago friend to the Barre Bee Fit method. She felt their unique cardio addition to traditional barre exercises burns more calories and gives a more comprehensive workout. She quickly signed up and became the first franchisee.

“The routines are difficult, keeping both your mind and body challenged,” said Danielle. “People often surprise themselves at what they can do, and we love to be inspiring and motivational.” The high intensity classes are filled with stamina-building exercises for fast results that you can see.

The tagline ‘Live by the barre code’ is used often, including on their licensed merchandise, highlighting the importance of making health and fitness a part of everyday life. Barre Bee Fit has a variety of group classes for strength, conditioning and restoration. Yes, most of the clientele is female, but there is the occasional man as well, often coming with their spouse to a couples’ class. There are six different instructors, including Danielle’s own mother, so you can find the style of teaching you feel most comfortable with.
