What’s a quick and easy way to add something special to your kitchen? Of course, we envision new appliances, countertops, flooring, and perhaps lighting. Kitchens are an integral part of our homes, where relationships and memories are nurtured. So naturally, we want the area to be warm and inviting. But what is a quick, easy, and INEXPENSIVE way to add something special to your kitchen? The answer lies at Butler’s Pantry located at 213 South Main Street in downtown Zionsville.

Sandy Rogers had the vision almost twenty years ago to open a gourmet food and kitchen shop. Butler’s Pantry is considered the first kitchen store in Indianapolis, and people would come from miles around to shop for unique specialty items.

Today, Butler’s Pantry prides itself as a table-top store with home décor appealing to clients who enjoy entertaining and cooking. Because people tend to utilize the same dinnerware from season to season, it is relatively inexpensive to freshen a kitchen with new table linens, napkins, candles, dish towels, pillows, and knickknacks.

In addition to offering décor to update your kitchen and powder room, Sandy also carries an assortment of unique items perfect for teacher appreciation and hostess gifts. From decorative matches with matching tapers, to napkins and dishtowels, to cheese ball and lemonade mixes, to one-of-a-kind Bridge sets, you will find that perfect something for someone special in your life.

Sandy also proudly displays her town spirit by offering a wide variety of Zionsville products including aprons, dish towels, tote bags, and napkins. In particular, the iconic Zionsville wine bottle stopper is adorned with green crystals and charms of a gazebo, the initial “Z,” and a silver eagle…an absolutely perfect gift to welcome someone our community!

I was especially impressed with her line of upscale Tuscany-styled melamine dinnerware and acrylic glassware. It is difficult to discern that these are not expensive ceramic plates from Italy and the wine glasses of the finest crystal. Melamine and acrylic are perfect for the poolside, holiday parties, and backyard get-togethers, when glassware and paper plates really won’t do.

At the core of Sandy’s business model is her approach of excellent, personalized service. In addition to a bridal registry, she offers complimentary gift wrap, recipes, and table scape classes, which my friends and I recently attended. She believes that big-box stores fall short of the level of customer satisfaction that she can easily provide. An integral part of Butler’s Pantry’s success is a wonderful staff which includes Becky Wykes, Tanya Davis, and Marisha Kuehl.

I invited my book club friends to join me in a tablescape class taught by Jim Holland of McNamara’s Florist. Jim entertained us with his vast knowledge of botanicals and decorating, utilizing his quick sense of wit and wisdom. Jim illustrated how to combine table linens with various accessories, often suggesting using something in an unconventional manner.

Jim also suggested hosting themed parties for your next event. For example, pearls could be a central part of a theme. Toss a few strands on the center of your tablecloth and use pearl encrusted napkin rings around your linen napkins. Your invitation could then suggest that your guests wear pearls to your event. Have fun with your theme and encourage guest involvement.

I actually found myself getting the giggles, as this class was so much fun! And, quite frequently, Jim mentioned that if your own garden doesn’t have the appropriate flowers, you might visit your neighbor’s yard and “borrow” something. And he offered that when you are out gathering flowers next door, you should take your dog as an alibi for being in their yard – just be sure to hide your clippers!

We all thoroughly enjoyed our tablescape class and left inspired to add some spice to our own kitchens and knowing how to host a memorable party. Upcoming classes include “Summer Tablescaping” on May 7 followed by “Wine Parties” on June 11. Classes will be filled to capacity, so reserve your seat early by calling 317-733-8003.

So the next time you are looking for a “special” something for that special “someone,” visit Butler’s Pantry. Maybe that “special someone” is you.
