Allison Melangton to be Honored at the 2017 Inspire Awards

26474619042_c9122d7eda_zCollege Mentors for Kids will honor Allison Melangton, Senior Vice President of Events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, at the 2017 Inspire Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Mentoring. Melangton is a corporate and philanthropic leader who has given of her time and talents to mentor youth and business leaders alike so that their futures and the future of our community can be brighter.

Melangton’s contrbutions to the community are numerous. She was honored with a “Sagamore of the Wabash” by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels in 2012, and recognized as a “Living Legend” by the Indiana Historical Society in 2014. Sports Business Journal, the nation’s industry-leading publication, named Melangton as a recipient of its “Game Changer” Award in 2012. Melangton also serves on the Board of Directors for OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc.

Additionally, Melangton served on the Executive Leadership team of Indiana Sports Corporation for twenty years, serving the last two years as President from September 2012 until October 2014. Four of those years were serving as CEO and president of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee from 2008 through 2012. This Super Bowl was widely regarded as the most engaging and successfully organized Super Bowl in history.

Throughout her career, Melangton has engaged in both formal and informal mentoring in the workplace and through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Through this program, she and her husband Tom were matched with a little brother for 10 years and have remained a part of his life even after the formal match concluded.

Melangton indicates she has benefited from mentors in her life, too, “I will be forever grateful to the many women and men who invested their time in me over my lifetime, and I believe strongly in paying that forward and investing my time in our future generations and leaders.”

Shelley Hunter, College Mentors for Kids Executive Vice President, shared, “Allison is deeply deserving of the Lifetime Achievement Award. She is the epitome of what this award is meant to represent – a commitment to community service, to mentoring, and to being a role model within the workplace. I have personally benefited from Allison’s mentorship and I know I am just one of many who can say that. Allison has a unique gift of balancing the demands of the job with a caring attitude toward people, mentoring and encouraging alongside the challenges of the position.”

College Mentors for Kids will celebrate Allison Melangton’s contributions to mentoring and the community, alongside other outstanding mentors, at the Inspire Awards held on February 23, 2017, from 12:00 – 1:30 pm at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis.

Past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Mentoring include: John Thompson (2016); David Becker (2015); Senator Richard Lugar (2014); Jim Morris (2013); Mickey Maurer (2012); Alecia A. DeCoudreaux (2011); and Margot Lacy Eccles (2010).

The Inspire Awards recognize and celebrate workplace and community mentoring and are hosted by College Mentors for Kids. Nominations are being accepted for six industry categories:

  • Accounting, Legal & Finance
  • Business, Retail & Services
  • Construction, Technology & Engineering
  • Education, Government & Nonprofit
  • Health & Health Services
  • Marketing, Media & Athletics

Nominations are also being accepted in a youth mentoring category to celebrate mentors making a difference in the lives of young people in their community.

Nominations will open on November 21st and will be accepted through January 23rd, 2016 at midnight. Five finalists will be chosen and the Mentor of the Year from each category will be announced at the luncheon.
