Red Ranch ShoppesDeborah Prescott, owner of Red Ranch Shoppes, 214 Main Street, Fortville, didn’t have to go too far to come up with a name for her business.

“My husband and I built a house in Fortville,” Prescott says. “Our home was the only red ranch in the neighborhood, so that’s where the name developed, and now there’s one other.”

Red Ranch Shoppes opened in March of 2019 with a great community response over the last year. The shop reopened on June 15 after the COVID-19 shutdowns.

“I just knew I was going to open a home decor shop, and then vendors and artisans began contacting me to be a part of the shop,” Prescott says. “I selected the best, and we’ve grown into a tapestry of 28 different people who contribute to what our shop is all about. We are open seven days a week, which is so welcomed by our guests. Our inventory changes daily.”

Prescott says that she has been pleased with how everything has turned out.

“We expanded into the wonderful, brick-walled garage which gave us room for so much more,” she says.

Red Ranch Shoppes has a wide variety of different items for sale.

“We have home decor, farmhouse, vintage, florals, local artists, a candle maker, a jewelry maker, soaps, essential oils, embroidered items, crocheted items, a Farmhouse Table Manufacturer, Dixie Belle Paint and Spirit Wear,” Prescott says.

Prescott is also available for in-home consultations.

“I find, as some guests come through the shop, they just aren’t sure where to begin decorating,” she says. “I know decorating!”

Prescott started her decorating career in the 1980s with the large home décor business, Home Interiors & Gifts. She specialized in décor, planning and home organization. She says that in the early 1990s she moved from northwest Indiana to Southern California, where she started a successful interior decorating business of her own.

She worked in multi-million dollar, beachfront homes and luxury gated communities.

Red Ranch Shoppes“There were a lot of people there with big homes that didn’t know what to do with their rooms,” Prescott says. “I enjoyed it. I would work in their homes and then go to the beach for lunch.”

She and her husband still missed their kids and grandchildren, however, and soon moved to Indiana to be with them.

Prescott went back into banking after she returned, but she still missed working in the home décor business. She says she also enjoys the more relaxed lifestyle of being back in the Midwest.

Prescott is now looking forward to future stock that will be featured at the shop.

“We are excited to add much more for our guests with a new line of upscale furniture and accent pieces,” Prescott says.

Prescott loves being in Fortville with its friendly people and great places like Main Street.

“There are a lot of popular restaurants here where people like to wander around and shop before and after they eat,” Prescott says. “I love that. There is a nice small-town feel to Fortville.”

Prescott noted that the store has already been branded as “the buffalo plaid” store.

“Red Ranch Shoppes is really a very special part of Fortville’s thriving Main Street,” she says. “It’s wonderful being that little spot that people send their friends and relatives to come and check out. There truly is something for everyone in one location.”
