Girls About Town: Are You Ready for Some Football?

Rachel Quade and Chalene Braun made new friends during Monday Night Football at the Ale-Emporium in Castleton.

Long before draft beer was on what seems to be everyone’s tap in town, the Ale-Emporium boasted one of the best beer selections in Indianapolis. True to its name, this emporium of beer has quite an impressive, if not downright overwhelming, amount of bottles and drafts from all over the world. Thankfully, they also staff employees who are very knowledgeable about the diverse brews.

Ok let’s just say it, Ale-Emporium has a massive amount of beer! And a massive amount of TVs, something like 80! Which leads me to why your Girls About Town are here! To watch football! Yes, we watch a little football! Monday Night Football at Ale-Emporium is definitely where it’s at on the northside. The place is mammoth as well, but get there early if you want a table to watch the big game because it’s packed.

Our bartender, Scott, was more than happy to serve us up and of course take a few pictures. There’s plenty of room as the main bar is two-sided and L-O-N-G! Of course, the TVs surround you, so there’s really not a bad seat in the house, plus you get to check out all the beer taps up close and personal!

The whole place has a cool, grill-pub-sports bar feel. Dark but not dank, cool stamped tin ceilings and wood panels make this a very cozy place despite its large size. It’s a great classic bar with arches, large mirrors, brass trim and of course neon beer signs, making it a great place to watch the game. The only thing missing from this bar is smoke! In fact, there’s no smoke at all anymore. You’ll have to step outside to their patio, but it’s pretty cool with lighting, patio tables and even a very nice fire pit.

Ale-Emporium shouldn’t be considered just a bar, however. We feasted on the Hermanaki wings, and can I just tell you my mouth is watering right now? I want some Hermanaki wings NOW! UGH! Seriously, they are the best wings in town. Our tending manager, Kevyn Perryman, tried to explain the fame behind these famous wings, but all I can say is they’re just different!

Ale-Emporium uses a dry rub, then grills their jumbo wings before adding their delicious sauces. Good thing we don’t live closer, or these wings could be a real problem! Succulent but not soggy, they really hit the spot! Kevyn went on to explain that his dad, Herman Perryman, is the name behind the famous Hermanaki sauces. Now a part owner, Herman continues to oversee serving up his namesake wings.

The Home of Honest Pizza and World Famous Hermanaki Wings,” Ale-Emporium is more than just a bar; it’s an awesome dining experience. With many swearing by this Chicago-style pizza as being the absolute best in town, this place is a sure crowd pleaser. Your Girls About Town will be back to try out that honest pizza everyone raves about and maybe some more wings…Aaaahhhh there goes my mouth watering again!

Casler’s Bar & Kitchen at 116th and Olio is a good local hangout to watch MNF.

Go get yourself some wings and beer, then tell the nice folks we sent you! Get there early for Monday Night Football as there’s always a sea of Luck jerseys to swim through! CHEERS!! Wait! Don’t forget to find the baby pink elephant named Baby Tusko! Go ahead, we dare you to ride him!

Although we loved the Ale-Emporium, there are many other places in the Geist area to enjoy the game. We always like Casler’s at 116th and Olio. Casler’s has lots of drink specials on game day, and everywhere you look, there’s a television! Claude and Annie’s at 146th and 37 is another favorite known for their wings. It’s a huge place and always has a friendly crowd. They do allow smoking if you like to smoke a cigar while watching your favorite team! Detour, the Nickel Plate Deli, Bella Vita, the Grill and Murphy’s are other local bars where you can enjoy the game. So if football is what you want, you have LOTS of awesome choices in the Geist area!
