Since Los Maguelles, 222 S. Main Street, Fortville, opened in 2016, the Mexican restaurant has become a popular lunch and dinner destination.
Los Maguelles Owner Raul Plascencia says he has been thrilled with the positive reception from the Fortville community.
“I have a lot of customers from Geist, Fishers, Carmel and a lot of other different places,” Plascencia says “I love it. I’ve been very happy here. We make delicious food that keeps people coming back for more. We are busy during the week and on the weekends.”
Plascencia is originally from Guanajuato, Mexico and noted that he has spent years perfecting his recipes. He believes his extensive menu has helped get a lot of customers in the door.
“One of our most popular meals here is the Arroz con Pollo,” Plascencia says. “A lot of our customers order that. It’s grilled chicken strips served over a bed of Mexican rice. It also had white cheese and three flour tortillas. You can also get it with shrimp.”
The Lupita’s Special has also been a big hit with repeat customers.
“It’s grilled chicken sautéed with carrots, broccoli, mushrooms and topped with nacho cheese sauce,” he says. “It’s served with beans, rice and the flour tortillas.”
Plascencia noted that the wide variety of fajitas at Los Maguelles have also been in high demand.
“One of our best fajitas is The Fajita’s Cozumel, which includes grilled steak, shrimp, chicken breast, chorizo and pineapple,” Plascencia says. “Our Texas Parrilla for Two is a completely loaded platter of grilled steak, chicken breast and shrimp. It’s served sizzling hot.”
Other customer favorites include the enchiladas, tacos, vegetarian selections or spicy burritos.
“Our burritos are stuffed,” Plascencia says. “The Burrito Tropical gets ordered a lot. Our Burritos Roqueta includes two pork burritos smothered with green tomatillo sauce and Mexican cheese and served with rice. The Burrito Loco is also very popular. It’s a huge flour tortilla stuffed with chicken, steak, grilled onions, beans and lettuce.”
Plascencia stressed that he has gone out of his way to make sure everything at Los Maguelles is fresh and authentic.
“I’ve had a lot of people tell me they love how authentic everything is, which is why I have a ‘Taste of Mexico Authenic’ special portion of the menu,” Plascencia says. “The Super Maguelles is a meal of a tender grilled steak, fresh grilled chicken breast and shrimp. We also have Taquitos Mexicanos, four crispy fried corn tortillas, two beef and chicken.”
Specialties at Los Maguelles include the Steak & Shrimp, Chile Verde with chunks of pork cooked in a homemade green salsa and Chile Colorado with beef tips simmered in a special red sauce and served with a choice of guacamole salad or tossed salad and three flour tortillas.
“We have a lot of lunch specials, and that brings in a lot of repeat customers,” Plascencia says. “Our bar area is also filled up a lot, and we have people telling us they love our Ultimate Margaritas and House Margaritas. We have 10 different draft beers, and tequilas, whiskey and drink specials.”
Popular desserts include The Banana Chimichanga, Fried Ice Cream, Flan and The Sopapillas, which are fried flour tortillas drizzled with honey and butter then sprinkled with cinnamon.
Plascencia knows kids can be picky eaters, so he offers a kid’s menu with favorites such as Macaroni & Cheese with French fries, cheeseburgers, pepperoni pizza, hot dogs and more.
“We really have a big menu of items to choose from,” Plascencia says. “We have something for everyone in the family.”
Plascencia noted that Los Maguelles is family owned and operated and added that he loves the family atmosphere in Fortville.
“We looked around at a lot of different places before we settled on Fortville,” Plascencia says. “I love the way this town reminds me of a ranch area in Mexico. There are a lot of very nice people here, and they have been great customers. We hope to be in business for a very long time.”
