The new setting for BluePeppermint Boutique is what Owner Jessica Landez always envisioned for her business. Now located at The Yard at Fishers District, the on-trend women’s clothing shop is nestled amidst a variety of shops and eateries. Landez’s relocation comes after several years of experience offering the community both a brick-and-mortar store and online shopping.

“As a kid, I loved to shop with my mom,” Landez says. “It was a special time for us. I used to dream about getting locked inside a mall and having to live there. I was also fascinated with cash registers. I loved the whole experience, from finding something to buy that I really liked, to the connection with people in general.”

After a series of jobs unrelated to retail, Landez eventually took the necessary steps to educate herself on running a retail business.

“I taught for a year, got my real estate license, married and had a family,” Landez says. “I would think, ‘What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?’ The answer was always, ‘Own a boutique.’ But I had no experience in retail and no idea where to begin. Then I got a start by renting a bit of square footage in another Fishers boutique, MJ Layne.”

Her time renting space inside an established store gave her the confidence to lease a house near Commercial Drive and 116th Street. After being there for five years, she was ready for the move to Fishers District.

“We appeal to a wide age range,” Landez says. “An 18-year-old daughter shopping with her 40-year-old mom, or a 25-year-old daughter shopping with her 60-year-old mother, will all find something they love. I do the buying and I’m always looking for the best quality at the most affordable price. When we first started out in the little green house, I sensed that people didn’t feel confident they should be in there. I want to make sure people feel comfortable when they come in to BluePeppermint.”

BluePeppermint’s online store is always open, and offers free shipping and free returns. New merchandise arrives daily, and sales and giveaways change often. Items and special promotions can be seen on the boutique’s social media platforms, which are constantly updated.

“Our new location is such a fun place,” Landez says. “The focal point of the store is a mural painted by local artist Laura Dro. The whole development is the perfect location to go with a girlfriend. There are so many things to do right there such as get breakfast, work out, get a massage or go to the hair salon. We were on board ever since we heard about The Yard at Fishers District. It’s perfect for our customers, and what I always hoped for.”
