Fishers Women-Owned Salon Flourishing Four Years Later

Radiate 60 Hair Collective isn’t your typical hair salon.
The salon was founded in 2016 by two friends and longtime stylists Carly Rush and Krystal Brown. Rush and Brown became friends while working to launch Antioch Indianapolis, a church that now meets at its location in Castleton. Through their church community, the two quickly became friends and discovered they shared the same passion for hair and people.
After Rush’s previous salon, MakeFresh on Maple, had to relocate due to the city’s demolitions and new construction surrounding the Nickel Plate District, Rush brought up the idea to Brown about the two opening a new salon in Fishers.
The idea quickly became reality.
The result is Radiate 60 Hair Collective, located inside The Edge Building in Fishers, around the corner from The Well Coffeehouse. Today, the salon’s nearly 3,000 square-feet space is flourishing with 19 stylists, making it one of the bigger salons in Fishers.
“Our space was custom created, by my husband, Chris, with a purpose,” Rush says. “We wanted an open concept not to critique the stylists but to inspire and encourage each other daily. The concept of booth rent salons is not new, but we took our own approach by changing how we operate day-to-day and interact, personally, with our stylists.”
The name of the salon itself also has a special meaning.
Radiate 60 comes from the Bible verse Isaiah 60:5 and highlights Brown and Rush’s overall mission for their space to be a place of light and encouragement to their clients and stylists.
“Our personal life is devoted to having a relationship with Jesus and wanting to love and serve others well, like he did,” Brown says. “We didn’t want to separate that mission from our work. We wanted to create a place where people feel welcomed, encouraged and served by us.”
Being a booth rent salon, Radiate 60 also supports its 19 stylists who are all experts in custom color, creative cutting, extensions and much more. Not being commissioned allows each stylist more freedom creatively as well as setting their own schedules and rates for each appointment.
“We get to not only run our own business, but we get to support, encourage and watch these other female-owned businesses grow within our space,” Rush says. “All of our stylists, female and male, are so enjoyable to work beside. and we are honored to have each of them on our team.”
With October being National Women’s Small Business Month, both Rush and Brown are thankful and proud to be a women-owned business located in the heart of Fishers.
“A rewarding part of being a female business owner is the ability to create balance between being a mother and having a career,” Brown says. “Carly and I both have three children and, yes, sacrifices have been made in certain seasons, but we learned to dig our heels into our calling of both roles and have found success in our home life and work life. We are thankful to live in a time where women are empowered to make moves towards their goals and celebrated for their success.”
