HSE student to represent Indiana in U.S. Senate Youth Program

For the second consecutive year, a Hamilton Southeastern High School student will represent Indiana at the United States Senate Youth Program in Washington , DC .  Senior Tara Fleming is one of 104 delegates selected for the week-long government and leadership education program in the nation’s capital and the recipient of a one-time $5,000 college scholarship.

On the basis of an essay, resume and application, she received a top-ten selection.  Fleming along with the other nine finalists took a written test and participated in an interview in November. She received a letter this week from the Indiana Department of Education naming her as one of the two state delegates. Last year, Justin Kingsolver received the honor.

The 46th Annual US Senate Youth Program will be March 1-8, 2008. Among a long list of activities, attendees will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials of the Departments of State and Defense and directors of federal agencies, as well as meet with a U.S. Supreme Court justice.
