Crestview Third Graders Give the Gift of Reading

Photo by Jane BrunnerOne hundred new books have been donated to needy children, thanks to the efforts of third graders at Crestview Elementary School. The students in Judi Corbit’s class participated in the Scholastic Book Company “Classroom Cares” program, which makes the book donation after the sponsoring classroom has read and logged information about 100 books they have read in school.  Two of the most prolific readers in the class are Jada Walls and Alesha Whittlesey (pictured l-r). Together they read more than half of the books logged by their class. “I like reading because of the details, the settings, the characters, everything!” said Jada. Alesha added, “The big words in the books I read have added to my vocabulary.” All of the reading took place during the students’ Independent Reading portion of their Reader’s Workshop.
