Commissioners reject town petition

The Johnson County Commissioners declined to accept the petition to form the Town of Center Grove at Monday’s meeting. Commissioners cited a number of technical issues including the wording of the signature petition, discrepancies between the written description of the town boundaries the map in the petition, and a few areas that were not included in the enumeration.

Citizens for Center Grove will make the requested revisions to the petition and resubmit it. Supporters of the incorporation effort ares discussing if the petition should be resubmitted as soon as the issues are addressed or wait until the new Commissioners are seated. They expressed concern that two of the three Commissioners will be changing at year’s end and by submitting the petition now the process would begin with one group of Commissioners and be completed with another. Commissioner John Price is running for the Indiana House and is expected to win and resign his position as Commissioner soon after the election. Commissioner Troy DeHart is not running for re-election.

Here is a video of the entire comment by the Commissioners.
