At ISBA’s Region 8 Meeting last night, Center Grove Community School Corporation (CGCSC) school board members, Jack Russell (President), Scott Alexander (Vice President), Carol Tumey (Secretary), Adam Norman and Rob Richards, as well as superintendent Rich Arkanoff were honored for making that difference. The Board as a whole took home a plaque designating them as an Outstanding School Board for 2011-2012. Jack Russell and Carol Tumey individually received lapel pins for earning their Level 2 continuing education designations.

These awards recognize individual board members and entire boards who put forth extra time and energy to strengthen their boardmanship abilities through in-service programs, workshops and other commitments like serving on statewide boards. Individual board members earn four different level distinctions (Level I, Level 2, Level 3 and Master Board member) by accumulating points for various ISBA or ISBA recognized activities. If a majority of a board attains a minimum of Level 1 recognition, the board is considered an Outstanding Board. Once all board members have attained a minimum of Level 1 and completed a board self-assessment with the ISBA Director of Board Services, the board will be recognized as a Master Board. The highest level of board recognition is an Exemplary Board – conferred upon second-year Master Boards that complete the designated criteria including annual self-evaluations with the Director of Board Services.
