Boys approached in Carefree North

Sheriff's BadgeUpdated 5:11pm – This morning Deputy Steve Love investigated what was believed to be an attempted abduction of two teenage boys in the Carefree North subdivision. The mother of the boys contacted the Sheriff’s department this morning; the event took place 10 PM Sunday. However, further investigation has shown that words may have been exchanged between the boys and those in the pickup, before the pickup stopped. The Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the event, but they no longer believe it to be an attempted abduction.

The Rest of the Story

The two boys, both about 14, said they were walking from the basketball courts located at the Carefree clubhouse back to Sunshine Court. As they were walking a dark colored, possibly Dodge diesel, pickup truck with dually rear tires and aftermarket LED lights above both windows, attempted to grab one of them. The other immediately ran into some nearby bushes to hide. The boy near the pickup said the truck was occupied by three males in their late teens and one female also in her late teens. The suspect male had a clenched fist and is described as a white male, approximately 5’11, shaved black or dark hair, muscular build, and diamond earrings. According to the police report, the suspect asked the boy how old he was and when he said he was only 14-years-old, the lone female in the truck told the suspect to let him go and leave him alone. The suspect then asked where his friend had run. He told him he was alone. After the boy was let go, both he and friend met up with one another and ran off in between the homes. The boys told Deputy Long that around 10:15 PM they observed the same diesel truck driving slowly on Leisure Lane, turn onto Long Rifle Road, back up, and continue back onto Leisure Lane again.

There was no battery that occurred and no further suspect information at this time. Residents should be aware of this incident and report any suspicious activity to the Johnson County Sheriff’s office.

Too many thugs running around Carefree these days. Lots of mischief going on!! Leisure Lane is not a thru street. I got a ball bat ready to tee off on some thug head.
