It’s about life in Center Grove
The first edition of Center Grove Community Newsletter is at the printer. This free magazine will land in your mailbox every month. With over 28,000 people living in the unincorporated community of Center Grove, we thought it was time for a publication that focused on our neighborhoods, our neighbors, and the events that affect our lives. Our goal is to be “hyper-local.” You will recognize the people in the articles and you will find the business advertised close to home.
My brother Jody Veldkamp and I are pleased to bring this publication to your door. I started in the radio news business in the mid-70’s, before I moved to Indianapolis in the mid-80’s. Likewise, Jody has extensive experience in radio, television and on the internet. We both moved our families to Center Grove nearly two-decades ago. Over the last three years, we have been covering local politics on CenterGroveInc.org. That site will be folded into AtCenterGrove.com, the web site associated with this magazine. We are excited about the chance to expand our coverage beyond the political spectrum and into topics of general interest.
We are proud to have Carol Tumey on this month’s cover. Over Carol’s career, she has contributed much to the community, with a special focus on the needs of our schools. Read Kurt Moore’s article to learn more about her passion for Center Grove. It’s April and we all have spring fever. Barb Augsdorfer serves up some good tips on how to improve the curb appeal of your home, there is more to it than mowing the grass every week.
We are also introducing what we expect will become three monthly features “The Gardening Nana” by Nancy Craig and “Some Financial Advice” by Kate Rhoten, who has attended and completed Dave Ramsey’s Counselor Training and is owner of 4 Walls Financial, A Coaching Focused Company. Finally, on our last page you will find a word puzzle for your enjoyment.
We developed Center Grove Community Newsletter in collaboration with Tom Britt, a Center Grove native who now lives on the north side of Indianapolis. There he publishes the Geist and Carmel Community Newsletters and maintains our shared web hub TownePost.com.
If you would like to write for At Center Grove or have a story idea, please feel free to contact us. Our goal is to capture the essence of Center Grove.
